"In The Sign of the Cross, Cecil B. De Mille saw to it that Claudette Colbert, who played Nero's wife, Poppaea, had a huge marble pool full of real asses' milk in which to take a bath. But someone neglected to put fresh milk in the pool every day and soon the milk began turning into cheese and spreading an unpleasant smell through the studio. On the third day of shooting, when Colbert arrived for her bathing scene and found everyone complaining about the cheese smell, she started laughing. 'Well,' she said, 'It's supposed to be a cheesecake shot, isn't it?'"
