Speaking Terms

In 1950, Dorothy Parker and her second husband, Alan Campbell, were remarried after a three-year separation. "People who haven't talked to each other for years are on speaking terms again today," Parker remarked at the wedding reception, "including the bride and groom!"

[Notwithstanding Parker's pessimism ("Oh, life is a glorious cycle of song, A medley of extemporanea; And love is thing that can never go wrong; And I am Marie of Roumania"), the couple remained married until Campbell's death in 1963.]
