In 1953, Victor Borge starred in a one-man Broadway production entitled "Comedy in Music". The show (in which Borge seldom got around to playing the piano because of his hilarious digressions) was a huge hit.
One evening Borge was approached after the show by an appreciative fan. "She told me that she hadn't laughed so much," he later recalled, "since her husband died!"
["A smile," Borge once said, "is the shortest distance between two people."]
