Gentleman Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson and his grandson were out riding one day when a slave removed his hat and graced them with a bow. Jefferson, who tipped his hat and returned the gesture, was dismayed to see his grandson, deeply engaged in conversation, completely ignore the gracious man. "Do you permit a slave," he said, turning sternly, "to be more of a gentleman than you?"
