From an early age, Cher had an eye on fame. "I wanted to be invited to wonderful parties," she recalled. "I wanted to be famous."

Alas, there was one minor problem: "I didn't really know how to do anything," she explained. "I had no skills -- I couldn't even call information for my mother."

Still, such was her drive for fame that she had her autograph down -- "the same way I do it today" -- by the age of twelve.
