James Boswell complains about a pickpocket

After dining with several sheriffs and judges at a formal Old Bailey banquet (in London's law courts) one evening, James Boswell complained that he had had his pocket picked and his handkerchief stolen. "Pooh," John Wilkes, a fellow lawyer, remarked, "this is nothing but the ostentation of a Scotsman -- to let the world know that he had once possessed a pocket handkerchief!"
