In 2002, 'N Sync's Lance Bass signed an "initial deal" with the Russian Space Agency to blast off to the International Space Station (ISS) by year's end. "People are always going, 'Oh, he's just going to go up in space and mess around' and stuff," bandmate Joey Fatone told the press. "But he actually wants to do a lot of different experiments as well as stand around going, 'Look, I'm in space,' so that's pretty good."
When it comes to space travel, however, doing "different experiments" is usually little more than an excuse to squander hundreds of millions of taxpayers' dollars (or, in this case, rubles). "All he needs to know is how to put on his suit and what not to touch," one Russian official later remarked. "We could even train a monkey to do this."
