Stampede

Czar Nicholas II decided to celebrate his coronation in Moscow by giving gifts to everyone in attendance. Accordingly, thousands of gifts were laid out on stands at Khodinka field.

Everything went well until a rumor began to circulate that there were more spectators than gifts. In the ensuing stampede, hundreds of women and children were trampled and killed.
