Bed-Ridden Soldiers?

During World War II, Joyce Grenfell and her accompanist Viola Tunnard toured hospitals throughout southern Europe, North Africa, and India. Invited to a hospital dance in Poona, India, the ladies were delighted when several men queued up to dance with them.

Less delightful was the announcement which soon followed: "We are lucky enough to have with us tonight two well-known artistes who have been flown out from home to entertain men in bed!"
