"Shortly before he became a Bristol MP, Tony Benn proposed to his beloved while sitting on an Oxford park bench. She said yes. Benn was so carried away by that golden moment that he wrote to the City Council pleading with it to let him buy the bench. In its astonishment, the council agreed and Benn had it placed in the garden of his London home as a permanent reminder of his love."
[Tony Benn was born in 1925 at Westminster, appropriately enough on what is now the site of Millbank Tower, the Labour Party headquarters.]
