Houdini's Death

Harry Houdini claimed to be able to absorb any punch to his abdomen, no matter how hard. After a show in Detroit one night in 1926, he was met in his dressing room by a man who, without warning, punched the magician as hard as he could. Ironically, Houdini, having escaped death on numerous occasions, later died from peritonitis (exacerbated by his refusal to cancel any of his shows) caused by this punch.

[Perhaps fittingly, he died on Halloween night.]
