Old War-Horse

"When Lady Astor visited Russia in 1931 and talked to Stalin, he asked her opinion of Winston Churchill. Lady Astor's eyes lit with triumph. About Winston Churchill she and the Communists shared a common opinion. She thought of the man in England pursuing a more and more solitary course, shunned by more and more of the politicians of his own party.

"'Finished,' she cried. She said that Stalin could forget about him, write him off. 'I don't agree,' Stalin said quietly. 'You will send for the old war-horse yet, in the day of battle.'"
