Telephone Message

One day at Kedleston, Lord Curzon was summoned by his butler to the telephone. His private secretary at the Foreign Office, Robert Vansittart, promptly informed him that a certain foreign statesman had suddenly died. "Do you realise," Curzon replied, "that to convey to me this trivial piece of information you have forced me a walk the length of a mansion not far removed from the dimensions of Windsor Castle?"
