Fed Chairman

During Alan Greenspan's tenure as Federal Reserve Board chairman, market-watchers hung upon his every word, attempting to predict Fed-mandated interest rate changes from everything from his tone of voice to the apparent thickness of his ubiquitous briefcase. Greenspan was understandably careful about his choice of words. On one occasion, he met a friend at a conference and was casually asked how he was doing. "Actually," Greenspan replied, "I'm not allowed to say!"
