One evening the actor and producer Ned Sherrin went out to see a movie. "As I edged my way to my seat in the crowded cinema," he later recalled, "I had to clamber over two teddy boys. One of them looked up and a flicker of recognition crossed his face -- I had been on the news earlier that night. He nudged his companion. 'Look who that is.' 'Who is it?' 'Ned Sherrin. He's on television. He's famous -- like Lassie.'"
