Soweto Rose

In April 2003, South African boxer Dingaan Thobela (the so-called "Rose of Soweto") missed a scheduled fight against Mads Larsen in Denmark.

The problem? Thobela (a former world lightweight and super middleweight champion) took one look at his heavily tattooed opponent, left his clothes and luggage in his hotel, and fled in a panic.

[Thobela had lost his last three fights; Larsen had won all but one of his 43 fights, 36 of them by a knockout. Danish boxing promoter Mogens Palle demanded that Thobelas be suspended all over the world.]
