Baliff's Funeral

Alexandre Dumas was once asked to make a contribution to cover the costs of a certain man's funeral. Dumas asked whether he had been a member of artistic circles in Paris. "Not exactly, but he moved in and out among us... He was the district bailiff." "How much will it cost to bury him?" Dumas asked. "Twenty-five francs." "Here are fifty," Dumas replied. "Go and bury two bailiffs."
