John Ferguson

Montreal Canadiens left winger John Ferguson (who collected 1,200 penalty minutes over his career) was a legendary bruiser. "I made it my business," he once recalled, "to be an absolute miserable SOB on the ice all the time."

He wasn't kidding. Ferguson's first NHL fight started in record time -- during the opening face-off of his very first game, when he dropped the gloves with feisty Boston Bruins defenseman Ted Green.

[Ferguson was once scheduled to fight with boxer George Chuvalo. The bout was cancelled by the Canadiens management.]
