On February 4, 2002, national Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) spokesman Niger Innis sat for an interview (about the "Enron mess") with MSNBC. The broadcast went swimmingly -- until MSNBC mistakenly flashed a graphic identifying Innis as Congress of Racial Equality Spokesman "Nigger Innis."

MSNBC's Gregg Jarrett promptly offered a "profuse apology." Innis took things in stride. "Oh, God," he replied, "I thought you guys thought I was a rapper or something!"
