Mel Brooks Movie Premiere

[In 1974, press agent Marty] Weiser leased a drive-in theater in Los Angeles and invited the press to attend a movie premiere... for horses. Weiser featured a 'horsepitality bar' full of 'horse d'oeuvres' {popcorn buckets filled with oats). And true to his word, more than 250 horses and their riders paraded into the theatre, 'parked' in the stalls, and watched the movie.

"The odd story ran in every newspaper and newscast in town, which attracted huge crowds to the film Weiser was promoting: Mel Brooks's Western comedy spoof, Blazing Saddles."
