Rolling Stones: Ed Sullivan Show

In 1967 (at a time when married sitcom couples still slept in separate beds), the Rolling Stones appeared as guests (along with 44 nuns) on "The Ed Sullivan Show." Ed Sullivan insisted on one editing change: the Stones, he decreed, would have to change "the night" to "some time" when they performed "Let's Spend the Night Together" on the show.

Jagger agreed, and rolled his eyes every time he enunciated the wimpy line.

[A scene in The Doors depicts Jim Morrison reacting to a demand that he change the lyrics to "Light My Fire" for a television appearance with a suggestion of his own: "Come on baby, bite my wire."]
