Captain Gregory: Battie Monument

Among the exhibits at the New York World's fair in 1939 was a model of a proposed 300-foot-high statue (to be located on the summit of Mount Battie in Maine) honoring Captain Hanson Crockett Gregory. Lit by floodlights, the monument would have been visible from 50 miles away.

Captain Gregory's claim to fame? He invented the donut hole!
