Led Zeppelin: Moby Dick Marathon
While touring in 1975, Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham was dismayed to learn that he had come second in a Playboy drummer poll -- after Karen Carpenter! "She couldn't last ten minutes with a Zeppelin number," he roared.Bonham's marathon "Moby Dick" solo was certainly a crowd pleaser. It also pleased Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page, who often took the opportunity to retreat briefly to the band's dressing room with some groupies. Indeed, Bonham's performances were so elaborate that, during one "Moby Dick" solo, Page retreated not to the dressing room, but to the band's hotel!
