Samuel L. Jackson earned an Academy Award nomination for his role as a hitman in Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction. At the Oscar ceremony, however, Martin Landau was announced as the winner (for his role in Ed Wood) -- and Jackson was caught on camera clearly uttering the S-word.

["There was no need for me to sit there clapping and saying 'I'm so glad Martin won,' because I wasn't," Jackson later explained. "I wasn't anti-him winning, but I was disappointed that I didn't win, and I expressed that."]
