Pierre Lueders: Hungry for Gold

In 1998, one member of the German Olympic bobsled team was injured while training for the Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan. Though the team managed to find a replacement, the man weighed in at 250 pounds -- putting the team 45 pounds over the limit.

Pierre Lueders and his teammates promptly went on a crash diet, ate virtually nothing for a week before the event, lost just enough weight to qualify, and narrowly won Olympic gold medals.
