"When I was in high school," Third Eye Blind's Stephan Jenkins once recalled, "I went through a phase of wanting to be black and regretting that I wasn't." Apprised of Jenkins' remark, one music pundit suggested that he change the band's name -- to Third Eye Color-Blind.

[Among Jenkins' early musical influences were such hip hop artists as De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Too $hort, the Geto Boys, and Arrested Development.]

[The name 'Third Eye Blind' was inspired by Camper Van Beethoven's Eye of Fatima, which (apart from Jane's Addiction's Nothing's Shocking) was the only tape Jenkins took on a backpacking trip across Europe.]
