Delicious Irony?

Champion swimmer Eleanor Holm won the gold medal in the 100m backstroke event at the Berlin Olympics in 1936. Unfortunately for Holm, she had soon earned another spot in the record books -- becoming the first athlete ever disqualified for substance abuse. Why? She was caught (on the way to a competion) "sipping champagne." Holm's partners in crime? A group of Olympic officials!

[Holm was also ejected from the American team for shooting craps aboard ship on the way to Germany.]

[When the Olympic Games were revived in 1896, considerable deliberation was given to the selection of the colors which would grace the five Olympic rings. In order to cause as little offense as possible, at least one of the chosen colors -- red, blue, black, green, and yellow -- appeared in the flag of every country on the planet.]
