Bob Newhart: Young Accountant

After graduating from Loyola University with a degree in accounting (in 1952), Bob Newhart briefly worked as a bookkeeper for a large firm in Chicago. The job's Kafkaesque absurdities later informed some of his comedy. "I would be there after work," he once recalled, "spending $50 in company overtime trying to track down $1.25."

[Newhart took pride in his accounting degree but later noted, with equal pride, that he had never worked as a CPA!]
