Matt Damon & Ben Affleck: Credit Check
Before selling the script for Good Will Hunting to Castle Rock (for $600,000) in November 1994, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck were broke. Affleck was sleeping on a couch in Damon's tiny apartment in West Hollywood. Though they soon found a bigger spread near the Hollywood Bowl, they still had a problem. "We didn't have any credit," Affleck recalled. The solution? "In lieu of credit we took a copy of Variety [announcing the sale on the front page] to the landlord, pointed to our pictures, and said, 'See, we're good for the money -- these checks are coming!'"
