In April 1987, U2 went to see Frank Sinatra perform in Las Vegas. Sinatra introduced Bono and his mates from the stage and announced that The Joshua Tree was #1 on the charts, before adding, "They sure don't spend their money on their clothes!"
["I've never been into that rock 'n' roll star trip," Bono once remarked. The band's first limo ride (in Los Angeles in 1980) came courtesy of their label. Among their stops was an import record store that had supported the band in its salad days. "We made the driver park around the corner," Bono recalled, "while we all sort of slinked into the shop."]
