In November 2005, Las Vegas mayor Oscar Goodman suggested that people who defaced Nevada's freeways with graffiti should have their thumbs lopped off on television. "I'm dead serious," he told a TV show, Nevada Newsmakers. "Some of these [kids] don't learn. You have got to teach them a lesson, and this is coming from a criminal defence lawyer. They would get a trial first."
