"Nobel Prize-winning scientist Konrad Lorenz said he was once out walking when he heard two dogs barking ferociously at one another. From the sound of it, Lorenz was certain the dogs would soon be tearing each other apart. But when he saw them, he was happy to find the dogs separated by a tall fence. Then suddenly, the dogs came to a large hole in the fence. They were nose to nose. This is it, Lorenz thought. But it wasn't. Instead of fighting to the death, the dogs retreated to the protection of a solid section of fence and resumed their belligerent displays, safe from direct confrontation."
