French locals respond to the filming of Charlotte Grey

In 2001, Gillian Armstrong directed Charlotte Grey, which follows Charlotte (played by Cate Blanchett) as she parachutes into France to run errands for British intelligence and search for her missing lover (Rupert Penry-Jones).The filming elicited many curious reactions from villagers in Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val, France. For example, when a Panzer tank rolled through town one day, Armstrong was amused to learn that a man had called the police, frantically announcing that the Germans were back!

[More poignantly, one woman stood weeping as she watched the Nazi flag being raised outside her window for the second time.]
