Singular

Heinrich Heine died in poverty in a squalid Parisian garret, utterly deserted by his former friends. Indeed, the only person to visit his deathbed was the composer Hector Berlioz. "Berlioz," the dying Heine declared, "I always thought you were quite singular."

[A writer to the end, Heine's last words were, "Write... write... pencil... paper."]
