Admiral James Stockdale was Ross Perot's running mate in the 1992 presidential election -- and was equally eccentric. Stockdale opened a major presidential debate (against Al Gore and Dan Quayle) with two questions (to which he seemed uncertain of the answers): "Who Am I? Why Am I here?" He later answered a question by saying he was "out of ammunition." And, in the middle of the debate, he simply stopped talking and turned off his hearing aid.
[During his stint as a POW in Vietnam, Stockdale refused to be released before his subordinates. Stockdale's first and middle names? James Bond!]
