One day during the production of The Ten Commandments (1923), Paramount chief Adolph Zukor spoke with director Cecil B. De Mille about the film's ballooning costs: "Cecil," he said, "the money piles up. What's the story?" "What do you want me to do," cried De Mille, "stop shooting and release it as The Five Commandments?"
