Katharine Hepburn: Playing Eleanor

One day on the set of The Lion in Winter, a reporter noticed that Katharine Hepburn, the film's star, had taken to wearing sneakers under her faux-twelfth-century robes. Asked about her unusual choice of footwear, Hepburn explained: "I play Eleanor of Aquitaine, queen of England -- and also a practical woman who believed in comfort."

[As a child, Hepburn shaved her head, wore pants and called herself "Jimmy" because, like her older brother Tom, she wanted to be a boy.]

[One of the passengers boarding the lifeboats in Titanic can be seen sporting a digital watch.]
