Long Explanation

O. Henry once wrote to his publisher, Frank Munsey, to request an advance of fifty dollars. As Henry was already several stories in arrears, Munsey replied, there would be "no advance unless I know what you want it for."

Shortly thereafter, Munsey received a sealed envelope by return mail. Opening the parcel, he found a single long blonde hair.

[Henry got his advance.]

[There is an "O. Henry" bar in Tegucigalpa, the capital of the Honduras, where the writer lived as a fugitive for several months in 1897, after embezzling funds from a Texan bank. The bar's specialty, the "Lost Blend," is named after one of his stories.]
