At a fundraiser in October 2002, Alberta premier Ralph Klein, an outspoken opponent of the Kyoto Accord, questioned the science supporting global warming. "My science is limited to the fact that eons ago there was an ice age," Klein declared. "I know that. I also know that the arctic was once covered by tundra and I guess it makes me wonder why. Was it dinosaur farts? I don't know."

[65 Alberta scientists later wrote an open letter to Klein explaining that there was overwhelming consensus about climate warming within the scientific community and endorsing the Kyoto Accord as a first step in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
