Joe Lowe, famed for his erratic behavior, threatened to shoot anyone who dared to lavish affection on the various women in whom was interested.

In the course of an altercation one day, a lawman intervened and suggested that the men apologize to one another. Lowe agreed.

"Come here," he declared. "I want to kiss and make up." When the other man obliged, Lowe bit off the end of his nose.
