Some time after World War II, when Picasso's paintings were fetching fabulous amounts, a wealthy American woman visited the artist in his studio. Pausing before one particularly abstract work, she turned to Picasso and asked, "What does this picture represent?" Picasso's Reply? "Two hundred thousand dollars."
[The Guiness Book of World Records lists Picasso (who produced some 150,000 works) as the most prolific artist in history, placing the value of his lifetime oeuvre at well over $1 billion dollars.]
