Shortly after the launch of "Blondie" in September 1930, the strip's creator Chic Young devised a novel ruse to promote the strip. In due course, nearly every newspaper editor in the United States received a suitcase full of women's lingerie bearing name-tags reading "Blondie Boopadoop."
