Fraternal Jesting?

J. M. Barrie was once approached by an inexperienced cast member who was anxious to give his (very minor) role the proper interpretation. "I am glad you have asked me," Barrie declared. "I should like you to convey when you are acting it that the man you portray has a brother in Shropshire who drinks port."
