Uma Thurman: 'It' Girl

Of all the characters in Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction, Mia Wallace, a big-time thug's wife with a big-time coke habit, was Tarantino's favorite on the page. "I knew her backward and forward, but I had no idea what she looked like," he recalled. "Every actress from Isabella Rossellini to Alfre Woodard, Holly Hunter, and Meg Ryan read for the part."

How did Tarantino know that Uma Thurman was the right girl? "I had dinner with another actress," the director recalled, "and felt like I was cheating on Uma!"

[During the U.S. invasion of Iraq, Tarantino was amused to learn that troops had found a copy of Pulp Fiction in Saddam Hussein's palace.]

[The shot in Pulp Fiction in which Mia overdoses and a hypodermic needle is plunged into her heart was filmed backwards: a needle in her chest was pulled out and the film run backward.]
