"Uma came marching up to me, quite furious," Joffe later recalled, "and said, 'Roland, I'm ashamed of you!' I said, 'Why?' She pointed to a Nubian boy sitting in a cart with a gold collar around his neck and said, 'What do you think is going on in his head?'"
