With his famous father, Donald Campbell built many record-breaking race cars and speed boats, invariably dubbed the Bluebird. One night while playing cards, Campbell turned up the ace and queen of spades, the same extemely unlucky combination which had signalled the end for Mary, Queen of Scots.

Donald looked quietly at the cards before declaring: "Someone in my family is going to get the chop. I pray God it's not me, but if it is, I hope I'm going ruddy fast at the time."

The following day, while attempting to break his 328 mph water-speed record, Campbell got half of his wish: the Bluebird crashed and he was instantly killed.
