Tallulah On Drugs?

One evening, at the launch party for a film in which she was starring (Lillian Hellman's The Little Foxes), Tallulah Bankhead found herself engaged in a heated argument with the writer Dashiell Hammett, who declared that he did not much care for people who used drugs.

"You don't know what you're talking about," Tallulah retorted, "I tell you cocaine isn't habit-forming -- and I know because I've been taking it for years."

[As a wag once said of Bankhead, "she's more of an act than an actress."]
