Gutsy Actor

Russell Crowe, famed for doing his own stunts, sustained many injuries on the set of Gladiator. "I broke a bone in my foot," he later recalled. "I fractured a hipbone. I had both bicep tendons pop out of their shoulder sockets -- fortunately for me, at different times, so I still had one arm I could use.

"I woke up one morning in England and I went into the bathroom and it was probably day six or seven of the battle sequence. As I was looking at it, I was thinking, 'Gee, what's that?' And I started playing with it and I realized that it was part of my insides.

So what did he do? "I had a little shot of Jack Daniels and I stuck it back in place and it's been fine ever since."

[During one scene in Proof of Life Crowe hung from a helicopter some 30 feet above the ground.]

[One scene in Gladiator depicts Maximus (Crowe) walking through a camp after a battle with the Germanic tribes. When he stops to pet one of the horses, a crew member in blue jeans can be seen wandering in the background.]
