Club Sandwich?

After a game one day, George Tebbetts and his team stopped at a roadside restaurant in Virginia. "I can feed all you fellas," the restaurant owner told Tebbetts, "but the 'niggers' will have to eat out in the back."

Tebbetts told the owner that the team was scheduled to check into their hotel and asked whether he could get 150 sandwiches to go. No problem, the owner replied.

As work furiously began on Tebbett's order, the team returned to the bus, raced off and never looked back!

[By the time of his death, Tebbetts (who made the cover of Time magazine in 1957 as manager of the Cincinnati Reds) had filled eight feet of shelving with his personal diaries.]
