Despite having received a dozen Oscar nominations, Woody Allen did not make an appearance at an Academy Awards ceremony until 2002 (when he made a special presentation asking producers to continue filming movies in New York after the 9/11 tragedy).

On at least one occasion, Allen failed to collect his Oscar because he was busy that night (as he was on every Monday night) playing the clarinet with his jazz band.
